Our trip to Budapest was short.
Very short.

A day and a half, 31 km of wandering around.. woah! But it was totally worth it.

From our cozy airbnb, we started off walking past the Synagogue and explored the central market hall where we enjoyed a very energizing lunch on the upper floor – a humongous portion of potatoes and sliced wiener sausages, we were good for the whole day! We continued our walk along the Veres Pálne utca (UTCA!), up to the Parliament, then along the Danube down to the Holocaust memorial (Shoes on the Danube, very touching installation).

Then the rain started, and guess what? Yes, we did not carry none of our TWO umbrellas with us. Smart people B-) We therefore had to run to Vorosmarty Tér, squish into a C&A and buy our awesome light green little friend, that helped us carry on with the rest of the visit – basically, we got hypnotized by a temporary market in the same square for the next two hours, between ceramic flowers and the small of delicious Hungarian food.

After a good hearthy dinner with spätzle and meat (unfortunately I do not remember the name of the place..but there are plenty, just pick the one that inspires you most!), we crossed the Danube through the old chain bridge..and we got to the highlight of the day. Rudas baths. Simply the best way to end an intense day of walking (thank you, Saturday’s late openings!). We went out at 2 a.m. just because we had to, but we could have stayed there forever. Absolutely amazing mixed baths, 5 natural pools with different water temperatures, sauna and Hamam rooms, cold water buckets (brr!) and pools (2x brrr!), one regular swimming pool (deserted at that time of the day, where I also chipped my ankle bone – the only unpleasant souvenir of the trip) and two AWESOME Jacuzzi-like polls with intermittent bubbles and water games to die for. I had visited the Széchenyi baths years ago, and I would say that Rudas is more intimate and for couples, while Széchenyi had a huge outdoor hot-water pool which was amazig to visit with friends. Széchenyi deserves a visit when its snowy outside, the feeling of walking on the icy paths and then soaking for hours into a ~40-degrees water pool is absolutely unique there.

It was short, yes.
But Budapest, you stole our hearts!
